Duo joined forces to bring Korean fried chicken into the world of esports

Bonchon, the global restaurant brand famous for its crunchy, hand-battered, double-fried Korean chicken, is partnering with the San Francisco Shock for the 2023 Overwatch League (OWL) season as the primary sponsor of Shock watch parties.

Bonchon and Shock

Tapping into the culture of its mostly South Korean roster, the San Francisco Shock will introduce Bonchon to countless gamers and share in its mission to spread the joy of Korean comfort food.

“Bonchon and the Shock have a mutual passion for South Korean food and culture and we want to share it with esports fans,” said Bonchon Vice President of Marketing Christina Coy. “This is our first esports sponsorship and we think our two brands together will be a winning combination.”

The most dominant team in OWL history, the Shock are known for winning back-to-back world championships as well as for their star player, Kim “Proper” Dong-hyun, the first and only player in OWL history to be named regular season MVP, Alarm Rookie and Role Star all within a single season.

“We see our partnership with Bonchon as a natural fit for both our fanbases,” said NRG Esports VP of Sales Brandon Tortora. “Not only do our players have a taste of home here in the states through Bonchon, but our fans get to experience and share in our team’s food and culture.”

Famous for its South Korean-style fried chicken, Bonchon is one of the fastest growing restaurant brands in the United States and has more than 400 restaurants across nine countries. For more information, go to www.bonchon.com/menu.
